Demography: the study of population, including factors affecting its size and growth

The life expencancy is rapidly increasing due to a number of reasons: there is better health care, housing now has double glazing and heating, people are eating healthier and eating less saturated fats, and there are now less dangerous jobs e.g. mining and factories. 

Birth Rate (Falling): Number of live births per 1000 of the population per year

  • Parents put more into raising their children, this takes up more time energy and money
  • concentrating on careers and university
  • dont need children to look after them in old age
  • more children survive infancy
  • people are less likely to be in a stable relationship

In 1901 the birth rate was 29, and by 2011 it had fallen by more than 60% making it under 11. There were 3 big baby booms, 2 after the world wars and one in the 1960's. This fell sharply in the 1970's and rose during the 1980's and
