Crime Punishment

The main forms of punishment until the 19^th century were brutal by most standards today. They included putting people in the stocks, branding with hot irons and whippings. Other forms of punishment have developed over time, including probation, fines and community service work orders.
New Labour was elected in 1997. One of its slogans was ‘tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime’. New Labour had introduced ASBOs, acceptable behaviour contracts (ABCs), parenting contracts,…
