Keywords & Definitions of flood hydrographs

Time lag = the delay between peak rainfall & peak discharge

Storm Flow = is the water that arrives in the river via surface runoff

Rising Limb = when discharge is increasing

Falling Limb = when discharge is decreasing

Peak discharge = maximum amount of discharge

Peak rainfall = maximum amount of rainfall

River regime = consistently changing amount of discharge

Baseflow = is a portion of the stream flow that is not runoff

What is Discharge?

Discharge = the amount of water passing a point in the river in a given time

Formula = width x depth x velocity
