Producing a supply of embryonic stem cells
Stem cells are pluripotent, so have the potential to develop in to many different cell types in the body. They serve as a sort of repair system for the body - they can divide without limit and differentiate to replace other cells. When the cell divides, each new cell has the potential to remain as a stem cell, or to become another type of cell with a more specialised function. E.g. a mucle cell, RBC or brain cell.
