In the Clinical Infectious Disease Process, there are four stages.The first one is incubation period, followed by prodromal stage, followed by invasion period and finally convalescence. 

The incubation period is the interval between exposure to the infectious agent and the appearance of first symptoms. At this stage, the microorganism has entered the individual and undergone colonization and begun multiplying. This stage may last from several hours, days (flu 1-2 days, COVID19 2-14 days, chickenpox 13-17 days) and years (AIDS 1-10 years.)
