?

Cyclone Haiyan

It was one of the strongest tropical storms ever recorded and devastated portions of Southeast Asia in November 2013. At least 6300 people were killed and many others were injured. The Philippines consists of over 7,000 islands but is concentrated on just 11.

Why is the Philippines so vulnerable?

  • make 87.4% less money, can't afford to rebuild homes
  • have 98.36% more babies, younger population
  • lower economy
  • 38.7% more class divide
  • 9.3 x more likely to be murdered, bad governance?
