Chemistry C2 - Ionic Bonding

?

Ionic Bonding - Transferring Electrons

- Ionic bonding, atoms lose or gain electrons to for charged particles (ions) which are strongly attracted to one another because of the attraction of opposite charges

One electron - Get rid of

All atoms on the left hand side of the periodic table (sodium, potassium, calcium) have just one or two electrons on the outer shell, and they want to get rid of it so they have full outer shells.

-This leaves it as an ion. Ions jump onto the first passing
