Chemical reactions happen when atoms are rearranged:

Almost all chemical reactions involve atoms changing places, the atoms from the substances you start out with (the reactants) rearrange themselves to form different chemicals. These new chamicals are called productts.

No atoms 'disappear' during the reactions, if you count up all the atoms in the reactants,you'll find they are still the same amount in the products.…
