Buffers are solutions that resist changes in pH when small amounts of acid/base are added or when the buffer is diluted
Acidic Buffer
- Weak acid (eg. ethanoic acid)
- pluis salt of acid, formed from strong base
- pH below 7
- Eg. ethanoic acid and sodium ethanoate
action of buffer dependant on weak acid equilibrium
If too much alkali/acid is added, buffer cannot compensate, therefore pH will change
Acid acts as a source…
