Bowles and Gintis's Marxist studing is still considered important today. They did this in 1976 and therefore could be considered outdated?

Bowles and Gintis felt that school should be a means of social mobility but they were disappointed that efforts to help working class children through compensatory education projects in the 1960s seemed to have little effect and they were abandoned. 

Bowles and Gintis did not accept that the lower achievements of generations of poorer children were due to low inherited IQ scores, and they claimed that school were organised to prepare most students to become docile, manual workers who were just willing to work for the profit of capitalists. Only a small minority of these students were encouraged to be independant and
