B3 Exchange surfaces

?

What are exchange surfaces: areas where surfaces where materials can be exchanged, such as food/nutrients, carbon dioxide, oxygen etc, they are used to transport materials in and out of cells and the body of multicelluar organisms.

ways to be more effective (features of a exchange surfaces:

large surface area (to maximize the contact for material to move in an ou

thin walls (for short diffusion so it can occur as quickly as possible)

in animals they need to have a good/effcient blood supply ( to maintain a concentration gradient so oxygen moves into cells quickly and effectively and carbon dixoide moves out quickly and effectively.)

in animals ventiliated ( to keep air moving into the lungs so more oxygen can be absorbed by the alevoli.

an example of an exchange surface is the lungs

you need to know the structure of alveolus which is the singluar of alveoli

each alveoulus is engulfed in capillaries where oxygen diffuses in from the air sacs and carbon dioxide diffuses out.

the alveolus is in a cloud shape and this…
