  • Parent-Infant attachment: Schaffer found that within 7 months the majority of infants had formed an attachement, usually to their mothers. It was also found that most developed a secondary attachment to family members within a few weeks of this. 75% of infants had formed an attachment to their father within 18 months- as determined by seperation anxiety.
  • A longitudal study assessed the quality of attachments that a child had to their parents and then analysed the quality of attachments the child had in their teens. It was found that the relationship to their mother had an effect on this, but the one with their father was unrelated.
