Marxist view on Education

  • Education prepares children for the world of work by giving them skills and values they'll need. E.g. Vocational courses teach trade skills so that people can go straight out to work,
  • Education justifies inequality. E.g. The tripartite system streamed people in to three different types of school; grammar, technical and secondary modern schools. Additionally, in the mid 60's comprehensive schools were introduced and children streamed into sets, only certain grades available in a certain stream.
  • Education passes on ruling class ideology that supports the use of capitalism. E.g. the Neo-marxist, Althusser…
