Terms
- A term is a collection of numbers, letters and brackets, all multiplied/divided together.
- Terms are separated by + and - signs.
- Every term has a + or - attached to the front of it.
Simplifying or collecting terms
- To simplify an algebraic expression made up of all the same terms (e.g. all X's), just add or subtract them.
Examples
1. Simplify q+q+q+q+q+q
First just add up all the terms
q+q+q+q+q+q= 6q
6q is your answer
2. Simplify 4t+5t-2t
First add the 4t and 5t together= 9t
Second take 2t away from 9t= 7t
7t…
