Animal Adaptations

Animals need to be well adapted so they can compete. They compete for:

• a mate - they can do this by dancing, fighting,
• territory
• food
• status

Different adaptations are needed for different climates, for example

Polar bear (cold climate) - camouflage, thick fur, big paws, fat, good swimmer, good sense of smell, small surface area to volume ratio

Camel (desert) - big feet, stores fat, 2 sets of eyelashes, camouflage, 3 eyelids, long legs, large surface area to volume ratio, thin fur, strong concentration of urine
