active transport- substances move from a lower to a higher concentration.

the concentration of minerals is usually higher in the root hair cells than in the soil around them. plants need mineral ions for ealthy grohwth. the root hair cells take in minerals through avtive transport. Active transport allows the palnt to absorb minerals from a very dilute solution, against a concentration gradient. this is essential for growth.
