Arrhenius' ideas

  • he said that in water acids produce hyrdrogen ions - H+
  • and in water alkalis produce hydroxide ions - OH-
  • however it only worked for acid and bases in water
  • when her first came up with the idea it was revolutionary at the time, scientists did not believe that it was true. charged sub atomic particles hadn't been discovered yet
