Cholinergic synapses (look at the other revision resource to see how the synaptic transmission occurs) use the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. 

Acetylcholine is broken down/ hydrolysed by acetylcholinersterase. This is a type of enzyme that carries out hydrolysis and breaks acetylcholine into ethanolic acid (acetic acid) and choline.
