1.1 Cell Structure

This lesson covers:

  • The structure of animal, plant, and bacterial cells
  • The function of each sub-cellular structure (organelle), such as ribosomes and mitochondria

  • Cells are the building blocks of life
  • 'The smallest unit of life that can replicate independantly'
  • Animal + plant cells = eukaryotes (DNA stored in nucleus)
  • Bacteria cells = prokaryotes (DNA not stored in nucleus)
  • In bacteria cells, each individual cell is a whole organism
  • Bacteria cells reproduce asexually
  • Animals + plants = multicellular (they are made up of lots of cells)
