  • Groundwater flow
  • Heavy percipitation; wettest May to July in 250 years
  • Through flow
  • Impermable rock

Impacts

Long Term:

55,000 business flooded

£3 billion insurance loses

People didn't have permanent homes for 3 months

Short Term:

Social: Roads were impassable, 140,000 homes= no piped water,health issues

Economical: Shops were destroyed and goods spoilt

Environmental: crops destroyed, sewerage becomes non controlled
