The Earth + Atmosphere

The earth consists of three main parts.

Core, Crust + Mantle.

The earth's Crust and upper part of the mantle are cracked into LARGE pieces called TECTONIC PLATES.

These plates move very slowly: a few cm per year.

They move because there are CONVECTION CURRENTS deep within the mantle.

They are caused by RADIOCATIVE PROCESSES.
