MASLOW- HIERARCHY OF NEEDS

We should reach to achieve the full potential of self-actualisation through the stages.

  • Psychiological needs-> breathing, food, water, sleep and warmth
  • Safety and security-> health, employment, property, family and social stability
  •  Love and well-being-> friendhsip, family, intimacy, sense of connection
  • Self-esteem-> confidence, achievement, respect for others, the need to be a unique individual
  • Self-actualisation- morality, creativity, achieved when the above stages are accomplished.

According to Maslow, human beings are motivated by the hierarchy of needs

The growth of self-actualization (Maslow, 1962) refers to the need for personal growth and discovery that is present throughout a person’s life

ROGERS- SELF CONCEPT

  • According to Rogers, a person can only become self-actualised if their self-concept is congruence to their ideal-self and this is determined by childhood experiences.
  • Rogers developed the client-centred therapy for indivuals whom self-concept is incongruence to their ideal-self. this can be explained by the lack of uncondition postivie regard that they received form their parents. Limitations was put on their love which is called worth of love
  • In these therapies he gives individuals uncondition positive regard that they didn't receive as child.
