Phishing

Recieve an email that you think is from Apple or you bank for example

The email contains a link to the organisations webiste where it aks you to enter your username and password.

Link takes you to a fake website

You enter your username and password and the criminals who created the website now have a copy of it.

How to prevent:

User behaviour

Don't click on links that are sent via email.

Baiting

Attacker leaves a maleware-infected physical device, such as a USB flash drive in a place it is sure to be found.

Finder then picks up the device and loads it onto his or her computer, unintentionnally installing the maleware.

Scareware

Tricking the victim into thinking his/her computer is infected with malware 

The attacker then offers the victim a fix but the fix is the maleware.

How to Prevent:

User behaviour Anti-virus software

Have anti-virus software do a scan to check for maleware

People/Password

Attacker guesses password

Password is written down - human error

How to prevent:

Netork policies

Passwords that are difficult to guess

Don't write passwords down

Employees - inside job

Emplyee send files, confidential informatoin to competitors

Sell customer personal details to criminals.

How to Prevent:

Network policies

Users only have access to the information and data that they need to do their jobs

Physical Restrictions for example, you only have a code to access the server room if you need access it to do your job.
