Pythagoras thereom

hypotenuse - the longest side of the triangle

adjacent - the side next to the angle

opposite - the side that is opposite the angle

these equations can be used:

c² = b²+ a²

a² = c²- b²

it depends what side you need to find

Calculate the length of the hypotenuse BA. Give the answer to one decimal place. 

7²+10²= 49+100 = 149

c²=149 (you need to find the square root) so c = 12.2cm

To calculate the length of one of the shorter sides, substitute any lengths into theformula and then rearrange to make a² or b² the subject

c²= b²+ a²
