Love and wealth

"Love's times's beggar, but even a single hour,

bright as a dropped coin, makes love rich,

We find an hour together, spend it not on flowers

or wine, but the whole of the summer sky and a gras ditch."

Love is dependant on time. Time doesn't need love. Time spent together is as valuable as being rich. Powerful. Love is more valuable than money, love's value is like being rich. Short time, seems long. Means a lot. Love is more valuable than material objects, don't care about material objects. Just want to spend time together doesn't matter where.

Money and love

"For thousands of seconds we kiss; your hair

like treasure on the ground; the Midas light

turning your limbs to goldTime slows, for here

we are millionairesbackhanding the night"

Sounds like a long time, but actually quite short. Makes an hour seem magical, and time distorted. Money references. Fairytale like, love is like a fairytale. Blinded by love, see a golden version of a person. Metaphor for sunlight, rich because it makes limbs turn to gold, sunset is gold. Moment is perfect. Millionaires- Polysilabic, multysilabic, pleasure to say that word. Feel rich cause they are in love. Pushing it away, don't want time to end. Perfect moment over.

Love is better than money.

"so nothing dark will end our shining hour,

no jewel hold a candle to the cuckoo spit

hung from the blade of grass at your ear,

no chandelier or spotlight see you better lit"

Polar opposites, contrasts that love is shining and time is dark. Cuckoo clock, reference to time. Metaphor, through eyes of love everything is perfect. Glowing with love. Simple happiness and beauty. Nothing can make you look better, now you are perfect. Gap between 'lit' and 'than' emphasises time spent together. 'Now' emphasises capture of a moment. Full stops show stopping of time they are experiencing.

than here. Now. Time hates love, wants love poor,

but love spins gold, gold, gold from straw."

Time is the enemy. Doesn't care about love, wants love to have nothing. Reference to fairytale- time spent together is like being in a fairytale. Golden sunset, beautiful, magical. Creating something precious from something ordinary.
