Marxist Perspective of the Family 2

UNIT OF CONSUMPTION-

The family plays a major role in generating profits for the capitalist system. Children use 'pester power' to convince parents otherwise they may experience bullying or stigmatisation.

CRITICISMS OF THE MARXIST APPROACH -

  • Too much focus on the exploitation of the working class, ignores the benefits of the family
  • Assumes fixed gender roles are still occuring
  • Marxists have no alternative to the family
  • Feminists say they ignore the oppression of women
