The binomial system

  • There are millions of species on our planet
  • Although species can be very different from each other, many have similar features that allow us to

Kingdoms

  • The first big divison of living things in the classification system is to put them into one of five kingdoms
  • These are vased on what an organisms cells are like.
  • The five kingdoms are
  • animals
  • fungi ( moulds, mushrooms, yeast)
  • plants ( all green plants)
  • prokaryotes(bacteria, blue -green algae)
  • protoctists(Amoeba,chlorella and plasmodium)

  • Living things can then be ranked according to:
  • Phylums
  • order
  • class
  • family
  • genus
  • species

Nematodes

Nematodes are tiny, thin worms without segments. Many species are free livin but others are parasites that cause diease. For example ,hookworma can infect humans.

Annelids

Annelids are segmented worms with soft-bodies> Most of the worm's body consits of identical segments,giving it a 'ringed' appearance.
