Mr Hyde

"ape-like fury" - zoomorphism/simile

"the smile on his face succeded by...abject terror and despair" - paradox - transforming??

"all human beings are commingled out of good and evil” - juxaposes good and evil (duality)

"Man is not truly one but truly two"

"like some disconsolate prisoner" - simile - he is a prisoner, he cant control  when hes J or H

- or imprsioned as he cant express his emotions as he has a reputation

"Well-made...with a slyish cast" - forshadowing - he's hiding something

"Make his name stink from one end of London to the other" - personification of name - victorian values/reputation

Contrasts to:

"end of the world" "three o'clock" "black winter morning" - patheic fallacy - something is up

"its hard to see were one ends and another begings" (the houses) - metaphor/foreshadowing         - evil inside man

"freeze the blood of the two gentlemen"(after seeing jeckyll) - Synecdoche - blood = a part of them however thier whole bodies are frozen

"if he be mr hyde...then i'll shall be mr seek" - pun + juxaposision

Most of novel is narrated by him - he is trustworthy and has a reputation
