Human Rights

  • Agreed by the member countried of the UN 
  • Supported by all of the Christian Churches
  • Christians believe all people have human rights- we're all created by God in his image and loved by God as individuals
  • It's the duty of Christians to show love of God by caring for the poor and weak by speaking against injustice
  • Some Christians because of their beliefs are in favour of liberation theology
  • Some support organisations eg Amnesty International (campaigns for human rights)

Awareness of the main features of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

  • All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights
  • Everyone is equal to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind
  • The right to life, liberty and security of person
  • No one should be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
  • The right to freedom of thought, concience and religion
