B2 topic 1 -Respiration
Respiration is NOT ' Breathing in and out'
It releases the energy that cells need to do just about everything. It is the process of breaking down glucose to release energy, it also happens in plants.
RESPIRATION is the process of BREAKING DOWN GLUCOSE TO RELEASE ENERGY, which goes on IN EVERY CELL.
Aerobic respiration is respiration using oxygen. It's the most efficient way to release energy from glucose. Anaerobic respiration is without oxygen.
Word equation for aerobic respiration:
Glucose + Oxygen = Caron Dioxide + Water (+ ENERGY)
DIFFUSION is the MOVEMENT OF PARTICLES from an area of HIGHER CONCENTRATION to an area of LOWER CONCENTRATION.
B2 topic 1 -Respiration & Exercise
When you exercise you respire more.
Anaerobic Respiration doesn't use Oxygen at all.
1)Anaerobic respiration happens when there's not enough oxygen available.
2)Anaerobic just means without air and its NOT the best way to release energy from glucose.
Word equation for anaerobic respiration:
Glucose = Lactic Acid (+ENERGY)
3)Anaerobic respiration does not release nearly as much energy as aerobic respiration.
Anaerobic respiration produces a build up of lactic acid in the muscles , which gets painful, and can give you cramp.
