energy changes in a system

?

THE 7 MAIN STORES OF ENERGY

What are the 7 main stores of energy?

magnetic - repelling poles pushed together, or attracting poles apart.

internal (thermal) - vibrations of particles and correlation to heat.

chemical - energy stored in chemical bonds.

kinetic - energy of a moving object.

electrostatic - repelling charges pushed together, or attracting apart.

elastic potential - energy when object is stretched or squashed.

gravitational potential - energy of object at a height

nuclear - store in an atom's nucleus

ENERGY TRANSFERS

Energy Transfers

there are energy transfers ocurring all the time - whenever a system changes there is a change in the way the energy is stored.

what are the four main types of energy transfer?

mechanical work - a force moving on an object at a distance.

electrical work - charges moving due to a pd.

heating - temp difference caused electrically or by a chemical reaction.

radiation - energy transferred as a wave, like light and infrared.

CALCULATIONS

* ALL OF THE FOLLOWING EQUATIONS ARE GIVEN IN THE 2022 EXAM SO DO NOT MEMORISE THIS IS JUST FOR REFERENCE*

kinetic energy = 1/2 x mass x speed^2

elastic potential = 1/2 x spring constant x extension^2

gravitational potential = mass x gravitational field strength x height

energy transferred = work done

work done = force x distance

energy = voltage x charge

power = work done / time
