  • Cheap accomodation with free heating in colder areas, however, poor quality 
  • In 1979, 4 and a half hours of work bought a loaf of bread
  • Airfare low
  • Diet improving, however, staples were still bread and potatoes
  • Growing black market, named 'second economy' by Brezhnev
