Biological

BRIEF SUMMARY- Behaviour and experience can be explained by biological changes. This approach investigates the brain, the nervous system and other biological factors such as hormones.

Principles of the Biological Area- 1.This area assumes that all thoughts, feelings and behaviours have a biological cause. 2.‘All that is psychological is first biological’ 3. Human genes have adapted our physiology and behaviour to the environment 4. Psychology should investigate the brain, nervous system and gene

Debate it strongly links with
The biological area takes strongly reductionist and determinist views as it assumes that all behaviour is determined through biological processes which cannot be controlled.

Strengths - 1.
Very scientific and objective 2.Strong counter argument to nurture debate which states that we learn behaviour 3. Research Methods are very reliable

Weaknesses- 1.
Reductionist as it ignores other explanations of behaviour such as the environment 2.Does not explain how the mind and the body interact 3.Research Methods lack ecological validity
