B3 - Watson and Crick

Francis Crick and James Watson built a model of DNA. They were the first scientists to ever do so. They completed it in 1953. To help them build it, they used information from other scientists so they could understand the structure of the molecule.

The information from other scientists was in the form of x-rays (showing that a double helix formed the DNA) and other various data (showing that the bases occurred in pairs).

Without this information they couldn't have done it, or at least would have been much slower, or beaten to the chase by someone else.

It wasn't widely accepted straight away, but with time, it was.
