Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway is a sonnet (love poem) about Anne who is married to Shakespeare. The poem is a metaphor for love.

'The bed we loved in was a spinning world' shows that their love was special, always moving and magical.

'My lovers words were shooting stars' shows that she loved him, and everything he said was special. Like a wish, magical - ref. to Romeo & Juliet and Much Ado.

The word 'echo' shows their closeness as a couple.

The way she says 'I dreamed he'd written me' shows that Shakespeare's writing was inspired by her love.

Carol Ann Duffy uses senses - 'by touch, by scent, by taste' - to emphasise the descriptions she gives.
