anaerobic respiration

?

lactate Vs Alcohol

  • Lactate fermentation is only one step whereas alcoholic fermentation uses two
  • Mammals cannot anaerobically respire for long periods of time as lactate is toxic to cells
  • Both take place in the cytoplasm
  • In lactate fermentation, pyruvate is turned into lactate, in alcoholic fermentation, pyruvate is converted to ethanol
  • Alcohol fermentation involes the removal of Co2, lactate fermentation doesn't.
