What is the rock cycle?
· There are three groups of rock on earth.
· The first is volcanic or igneous rock formed
from the cooling of molten rock .
· The second is sedimentary, sedimentary rocks
are formed from fragments and solutions of
other rocks as well as dead organic organizms.

The start of the rock cycle
The rock cycle is started by the formation of igneous or volcanic
rocks formed by cooling lava and magma. The cooling of lava on the
surface forms volcanoes and cooling of magma in the earth forms
either batholiths dykes or sills.
Key points
·Magma and lava are both molten rock,
magma is molten rock in the earth and
lava is molten rock on the surface.
·Molten rock is hot liquid rock formed
when solid rock melts.
·Molten rock cools very quickly on the
surface…read more
