Definition of schizophrenia
According to the DSM-IV a patient is schizophrenia if they 2 or more positive
symptoms for most of the time in 1 month.
Delusions: if they are bizarre
Hallucinations: running commentary or 2 conversing voices
Disorganised speech: must impair conversation
Grossly disorganised behaviour: such as inappropriate dress or
Affective flattening: lack of emotion
Alogia: lack of speech
Avolition: lack of motivation
If symptoms persist for more than 6 months then they are schizophrenic. They
aren't schizophrenic if symptoms are due to a mood disorder or drugs.
