  • Every year there are gun massacres (Sandy Hook massacre)

  • Only supported by Republicans so struggle when the Democrats dominate government

  • DC vs. Heller 2008 (In 1976 DC banned handguns, in 2008 the Supreme Court ruled that this was unconstitutional and the ban was overturned)

Threats

  • Sandy Hook Massacre 2012 (27 people shot dead by Adam Lanza at Sandy Hook Elementary School, chief executive of NRA (Wayne LaPierre) said that 'the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun')
  • Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Control (organised Million Mom March on Mothers Day 2000, grassroots campaign)
