Advantages
- All germans had equal rights + the right to vote
- The powers of the president and chancellor were balanced (the chancellor would stop president from being too powerful
- Each state had traditions so should control themselves
- Article 48 shows that the constitution had precautions in case of an emergency
- Proportional representation was fair as it represented the parties popularity
- A strong president was essential to keep control over the country in a crisis

Disadvantages
- It was not sensible to give equal rights to those who wished to destroy it
- The president + reichstag might disagree on who should be chancellor
- The states could be hostile + try to overthrow the government
- How is an emergency defined? The president could use it whenever to push through laws
- Proportional representation encourage small parties, leading to lots of coalitions forming a weak government
- The president had too much power + could become a dictator
