Disadvantages
- we know that the mind is dependent on the brain - eg drugs have an effect on the mind and body. if the mind and body wasn't linked, they wouldn't operate - bernard williams
- contradicts the christian idea that god created the soul, as plato believes it has always existed
- peter geach - how can a disembodied soul know the forms? being able to see is part of the body and not the soul
- theory of forms is heavily critiqued, and seeing as the soul relies on belief in the forms, this makes the argument weaker
