Medical Inspection Act 1907

?

Medical Inspection Act 1907

Advantages

  • Detected a great deal of medical problems, i.e. in Glasgow , 30% of children were found to be 'venomous'
  • Free treatment given to schoolchildren after 1912, before you had to pay

Disadvantages

  • Although grants were given to some local authorities in 1912, there were no compulsion to treat the health problems found
  • Left the local authorities to make all this work

Evaluation

Overall, all their efforts was not put into place because eventhough they found a way to ensure that schoolchildren were medically checked and free which was compulsory in 1907, and that treatment was free in 1912, there was still no compulsion to treat the health problems that have been found. This therefore probes whether the Act was as effective as it could have been. And it contradicts its marked change of government policy as they had a laissez faire approach which is exemplifies through the fact that they left the local authorities to make all this work and ensure that children are given the free treatment, and did not take control and take a larger role in trying to help those in need.
