  • party was in terminal decline (Dangerfield theory, ill man being run over by a bus - ill man is party and bus is ww1 )
  • split over ireland homerule
  • WW1 made liberals sacrifice many beliefs and split the party
  • labour was a alternative for liberal voters
  • split between George and Asquith

  • labour gained more voters
  • liberal never fully recover

Overall summary

liberal was already in a decline before the War as it was split over Ireland and labour was growing as a more extreme alternative, WW1 came along and caused the split between Asquith and LG, had to give up its most cherished beliefs e.g. conscription.Dangerfield theory is good example
