Evaluate the usefulness of interviews as a market research method.

Advantages

  • can be unstructured which allows for questions to naturally develop
  • body language can be watched  - give an insight into interviewees thoughts
  • researcher can explain any questions

Disadvantages

  • quite expensive to carry out - significant labour input required
  • takes up time of both researcher + person being interviewed
  • may take longer to set up than a telephone interview

Evaluation

An interview involves asking a series of questions to one individual - may be done face to face, over the phone, by email or even by post. An interview is a piece of qualitive research where the results cannot be turned into no.
