	Overall comparison 'Atonement' and 'Wuthering Heights' can be argued to be two novels that evidently use historical as well as social context to define the novels plot and structure. Both texts hold similarities in comparison with each over such as the sexual inequality the women experience throughout the text such as Lola Clancy in 'Atonement' who looses her youth potentially to a dominant older man (Paul Marshall) as well as Isabella who potentially demonstrates how women were treated by men in the 1800's; as an object. Yet arguably the texts hold difference as 'Atonement' is highly influenced by the social context, the wide scale impact war that can be blamed for the separation of the texts lovers. Where as Bronte makes a statement of social class being a requirement.Purposely, Bronte sets her novel back to the 1880's opposed to when the novel was written - 1847 , the novel begins with '1801', a contemporary and even a modern reader of the novel would be aware of the dramatic change in class structure due to the industrial revolution. Therefore Bronte purposely does this; to focus on the dominant class demands during this period. Evidently this impact the characters. Such as Catherine Earns haw, who results in marrying Edgar Linton to become "The greatest women of the neighbourhood". Although the novel itself doesn't focus on outside opinion, it is clear that class dominates others and doing so dominates the actions of characters as they wish to be perceived in good social 'light'. Bronte uses Catherine as a prime example to do thus. The readers can apply Marxist theory to this, as it is shown through Catherine class detirms how you are looked upon therefore determines your significant lover.
