Biological Basis for Behaviour - BioPsych

Advantages

  • Some research supports biology's involvement in behaviour - the hormone oxytocin it is thought to be important in reproduction. It causes a feeling of relaxation and calm.

Disadvantages

  • Determining cause and effect is difficult. It's possible that that biological structures only provide the means for behaviours to take place rather than causing behahaviour
  • Reductionist - it may be a combination of multiple factors rather than just biology alone

Evaluation

The causes of behaviour need to be further researched. But it seems that biological structures and processes have some influence.
