- Arctic= Ocean surrounded by land; Antarctica=land surrounded by ocean.
- Arctic mostly one large sheet sea ice; Antarctica= 2 sections (west & east) divided by the transantarctic mountains
- Melting of ice in Arctic will not increase sea level. Melting of Antarctic land ice will increase sea level (East sheet=bigger but west sheet= more dynamic-melting at more rapid rate).
