Advantages

More ethical to use animals over humans - confidential
Through the use of animals we discovered a critical period - we can generalise this to real life applications - adoption studies
Lab studies - highly controlled environment - we can establish a good cause and effect. - with our animals studies it makes research more reliable - better application to humans.

Disadvantages

Behaviourists say that humans and animals are the same - biologically we are different to geese so we can't generalise.

Evaluation

Nurture / nature - Fitting into nurture Determinism / Free Will - Deterministic - lack of choice as to who they imprinted because lab experiment Reductionism / Holism - Reducing down to imprinting and critical period.
