Advantages

  • Blass and Schmitt (2001)- People blame figures of authority for participant behaviour

Disadvantages

  • Limited explanation- cannot explain why some of Milgram's participants disobeyed or the lack of moral strain in Hofling et al 's nurses (1966)

Evaluation

Although there is research support in Blass and Schmitt's study, agency theory leaves many gaps in terms of explaining why people obey with no anxiety or disobey orders.
