    • Fat Soluble
      • Found in - Skin of orange, yellow fruits/veg. Liver, eggs & cereal grains
        • Normal Vision, healthy coat, skin MM & teeth
          • Excess - common in cats fed high liver diets - liver damage, painful bone cond.
            • Deficiencies - Uncommon
  • D
    • Fat Soluble
      • Found in fish/oils,cereal grain germ & liver
        • Involved in calcium homeostasis
          • Can be synthesised by skin from exposure to sunlight
            • Excess - hypercalcemia soft dissue calcifaction & death
              • Deficiencies - rare. Rickets in the young.
  • E
    • Fat Soluble
      • Synthesised by plants & natural sources. Veg oils, seeds, grains & meat
        • Protect cell wall acting with selenium
          • Excess - Unlikely
            • Deficiencies - Cats -pansteatitis - yellow coat disease. Dogs - skeletal muscle dystrophy, reproduc. fail, impaired immune response
  • K
    • Fat Soluble
      • Leafy greens - min required in diet
        • Excess - low toxicity - could produce anaemia
          • Deficiencies - Unlikely as synthesised by gut bacteria
  • B complex
    • Water Soluble
      • Includes - riboflavin, folic acid, biotin etc
        • Excess - Considered non toxic
          • Deficiencies - pet food contains plenty so unlikely
  • C - Ascorbic acid
    • Water Soluble
      • Dogs/cats can synthesis this from glucose.
        • Guinea pigs and fish cannot
          • Function - ~Intracellular reactions & protein synthesis
            • Excess - unlikely
              • Deficiency - Scurvy - uncommon
              • May be beneficial to add in diet to cases of stress & high activity levels. Research shows useful prevention of some cancers
          • can be supplemented especially to those that are pregnant, ill or stressed. 1g per ltre of drinking water daily fresh
        • most birds can synthesis vit C
